ABSTRACT

Objectives: We aimed at examining whether patients with rheumatological conditions receiving chronic hydroxychloroquine therapy are at a lower risk of developing SARS-CoV-2 infection than those not receiving hydroxychloroquine. Method(s): This historical cohort study included information of all patients aged 18 years or older with rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, or associated rheumatological conditions (based on International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition, diagnostic codes). A propensity score was calculated for each patient, and each patientwho was receiving hydroxychloroquine was matched to two patients who were not receiving hydroxychloroquine (controls). The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients with PCR-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection among those receiving chronic hydroxychloroquine versus the propensity-matched patients not receiving chronic hydroxychloroquine in 2021. Result(s): 322 patients receiving hydroxychloroquine and 645 patients not receiving hydroxychloroquine were included in the primary analysis. The incidence of active SARS-CoV-2 infections during the study period did not differ between patients receiving hydroxychloroquine and patients not receiving hydroxychloroquine ( [0 3%] vs 78 [0 4%] of 21406;odds ratio 0 79, 95% CI 0 52-1 20, p = 0 27). There were no significant differences in secondary outcomes between the two groups of patients who developed active SARS-CoV-2 infection. For all patients in the study, overall mortality was lower in the hydroxychloroquine group than in the group of patients who did not receive hydroxychloroquine (odds ratio hydroxychloroquine was not associated with the development of active SARS-CoV-2 infection (odds ratio 0 79, 95% CI 0 51-1 42) Conclusion(s): Hydroxychloroquine was not associated with a protective effect against SARS-CoV-2 infection in a large group of patients with rheumatological conditions.

ABSTRACT

The debate on the inclusion of aspects associated with the pandemic in the General Training component of 2021 ENADE (National Performance Exam) tests is justified because this topic is not listed as a possibility from the base of standard items for all courses. In this sense, it is understood that the inclusion of topics associated with the pandemic of the coronavirus that causes Covid-19 in the General Training component of ENADE 2021 tests is an essential indicator of the topics perceived as relevant by the Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anisio Teixeira (INEP), the institution responsible for preparing ENADE tests. We propose that the presence of this content is perceived as a resistance movement by the academic community to the negationist environment that permeated the areas of Education, Health, and Science in Brazil.

ABSTRACT

The present research aimed to analyze the Gnoseology of higher education as a link in ethical awareness in pandemic times, using a bibliographic search as a research method, where studies published in a high-impact journal were selected. The results showed that the institutions have strategies and action plans for the development of moral and ethical values, clearly showing the interest groups related to the institution. It can be inferred in relation to responsibility, that the efficiency of the services provided by the directors will be a consequence of the order and priorities that are given to the management to administer and will never be due to improvisation. © 2021, Universidad del Zulia. ABSTRACT

The Coronavirus represents the greatest threat to physical health in modern times. Simultaneously, fear of the unknown and the fear of the very real repercussions of the virus is threatening to impact the mental health of many around the world. To provide insights on the impact of Coronavirus on our mental health, we are constantly monitoring millions of conversations on Twitter each day, and analysing this enormous amount of data by means of psychological models trained with artificial intelligence techniques and deep neural networks. © 2020 Sociedad Espanola para el Procesamiento del Lenguaje Natural. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical characteristics of pregnancy, biochemical alterations and obstetric outcomes of patients with positive COVID-19 test. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Observational, case series, analytical, retrospective, and cross-sectional study performed by reviewing clinical records of pregnant patients with confirmed clinical picture (by PCR for SARS-CoV-2) of COVID-19. RESULTS: Fifteen cases of patients with positive test for SARS-CoV-2 were studied. The mean age was 28.67 years (SD ± 6.11);14 of the 15 were in the third trimester of pregnancy, 11 of 15 had mild disease. Pregnancy was terminated by cesarean section in 12 of 15 patients and 3 of 15 required specialized care by specialists in critical care medicine. CONCLUSIONS: The clinical features and severity of the disease appear to be similar in pregnant and non-pregnant patients. The main reason for hospitalization and termination of pregnancy was due to obstetric causes. © 2021 Asociacion Mexicana de Ginecologia y Obstetricia. All rights reserved.
